IHEP and CELLS Sign Agreement to Boost Synchrotron Science and Technology

The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Consortium for the Construction, Equipping and Exploitation of the Synchrotron Light Source (CELLS) signed a cooperation agreement on July 26, 2025. The signing ceremony took place in Beijing on the occasion of visit of Mr. Salvador Illa, President of Catalan Government, marking a new chapter in the collaboration on the synchrotron science and technology between China and Spain.

This collaboration aims to advance the development of synchrotron science and technology by leveraging the expertise and facilities of both parties, defining the specific collaborative activities and programs between IHEP and CELLS, mainly focusing on three main areas: Accelerator Technology, Experimental Beamline Technology, and Scientific Cooperation.

 “It’s a good timing for both sides to co-work and it will be beneficial to the synchrotron science community and I believe we can do better by our joint efforts”, addressed by Prof. DONG Yuhui, IHEP Deputy Director, during the Spanish delegation’s visit to the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS).

Dr. Caterina Biscari, Director of Alba Synchrotron, said “we aim at providing solutions for the global challenges which affect the whole world by working together”.

These collaborative efforts will foster significant advancements in synchrotron science and technology and contribute to the global users and enhance the openness and sustainability of large science infrastructure, promoting international cooperation in science and technology.
