CSNS’s MPI Passes Acceptance Assessment

2021-07-29

Organized by Dongguan University of Technology (DGUT), the acceptance meeting for the multi-physics instrument (MPI) was held at the CSNS campus on July 26. The acceptance group included experts from DGUT, the Institute of Physics, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, Dongguan Research Center of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), Southern University of Science and Technology, Guangdong Medical University and Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory.

A summary report was presented by Prof. YIN Wen, lead scientist of MPI, followed by an on-site inspection. The acceptance group also reviewed the processing assessment report, acceptance report, and project archives. The acceptance group concluded that MPI has been successfully built, is of high quality and has thus passed the acceptance assessment.

MPI is the first cooperative instrument built by CSNS and its users, DGUT and CityU. Its construction began in September 2018, and it is expected to be opened to users in October 2021. As the first neutron total scattering diffractometer, MPI will serve as a cutting-edge tool in research areas such as materials science, condensed matter physics, life sciences and nanotechnology. It will also contribute to technological innovation and development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
