NHEPSDC Launches Greater Bay Area Center
An increasing number of large-scale scientific facilities constructed in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area have generated more and more scientific data. To meet the need for data services, the National High Energy Physics Science Data Center (NHEPSDC) recently set up its Greater Bay Area Center at the CSNS campus in Dongguan.
"The Greater Bay Area Center's mission is to build an efficient data system and improve data services for scientific research and technology innovation. Meanwhile, it also seeks opportunities to cooperate with local research institutions, universities and enterprises to carry out research on big data management, data mining and application, data security and computing technology," said CHEN Gang, director of NHEPSDC.
CHEN also emphasized the capability of NHEPSDC, which has more than 10 PB of storage space, a computing resource with tens of thousands of CPUs, an international network link of 10,000 megabits per second, as well as a complete information support system. “NHEPSDC is able to provide services for data management and sharing, such as resource integration, data sharing, and data resources and indexes,” CHEN said.
"The three initial instruments of CSNS have successfully served more than 300 users. With the support of NHEPSDC, CSNS runs smoothly, helping users conduct research on materials science, chemical engineering, resources and the environment," said CHEN Yanwei, deputy director of IHEP. "We are now building more user instruments and a planned photon source. It means the data center will play a more important role in the future."
NHEPSDC is a data center supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology and operated by IHEP. It provides data services to domestic and international large-scale scientific projects in the fields of high energy physics, neutrino physics, cosmic and astro-particle physics, neutron physics, X- and gamma-ray research and space sciences, such as the CSNS project, Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment, and the LHC project in Europe.
