IHEP Deploys and Provides EDUROAM Wireless Roaming Service

2015-04-02

In March, the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) successfully deployed and started to provide the global EDUROAM wireless roaming service to all users. EDUROAM is a world-wide Wi-Fi roaming access service for the international education and research community, covering universities and scientific research institutions in more than 70 countries and regions.

Global wireless roaming service can be easily available if the participating institutions establish their own EDUROAM system. In those institutions established EDUROAM, users may use their personal identifications legally provided by their home institutions to directly visit the local EDUROAM and connect to the internet in the participating institutions world-wide.

With the assistance of EDUROAM and the Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) of CAS, IHEP completed the EDUROAM application process and the necessary technological preparations, starting to provide services in March. Currently, IHEP and CNIC are the first two institutions in China providing EDUROAM service.

EDUROAM provides users from the participating institutions with immediate connection to the internet when they are visiting EDUROAM participating institutions. A number of institutions in the country show interests in joining EDUROAM. IHEP and CNIC would like to help them to establish the service.
