Particle physics communicators gather in Vancouver

2012-05-27

From May 9 to 11, communicators from worldwide particle physics community gathered in Vancouver to join the 2012 spring Interactions Collaboration Meeting. Timothy I. Meyer, Head, Strategic Planning & Communications, TRIUMF chaired the meeting. Activities over the past year were reviewed, and discussions carried out on the next ICHEP in Australia. XU Tongzhou, manager of IHEP Directorate Office introduced to the particle physics communicators the scientific and outreach activities over the past years at IHEP and IHEP's mid-long term plans.

The Interactions Collaboration was set up nearly a decade ago to support the international science of particle physics and to set visible footprint for peaceful collaboration across all borders. The Interactions Collaboration supports worldwide particle physics through strategic, collaborative communication. The collaboration runs a news wire for the distribution of scientific press releases, operates the website www.interactions.org and publishes a magazine "Symmetry", it also conducts per reviews and undertakes other joint communication projects.

The website www.interactions.org was officially launched in 2001, and it helps anyone involved in the communication of particle physics to share resources and information. Interactions.org provides images, contacts, news and other information for news stories, articles, presentations, reports and papers.

Interactions.org serves as a single, efficient and effective conduit for disseminating scientific press releases, articles, news, event information, images and information about particle physics. (It seems fitting that the World Wide Web, which came from particle physics, should have a role in supporting the science that created it)

Interactions.org also helps students, teachers, the public and scientists in all fields better understand the nature and values of particle physics research.
