Place: Room C305, IHEP Main Building
Abstract:
Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) are among the most successful examples of application of CMOS technology in everyday life.Since their inception, more than two decades ago as imaging devices, they were immediately recognized as having great potential use in scientific applications as well. In this talk, after an introduction to CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel sensor technology, the speaker will describe their applications in science, with particular emphasis in High energy Physics experiments and radiation dosimetry.
About the speaker:
Dr.E.Giulio Villani is a senior staff member of Particle Physics Department at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory,UK.He is a permanent member of the ATLAS collaboration at CERN and is actively involved in the ATLAS Tracker Upgrade. For several years he has been involved in the development of CMOS detectors for scientific applications, ranging from HEP to imaging and for applications in clinical radiation dosimetry. He is a member of the RD50 collaboration at CERN, aimed at developing radiation hard detectors for HEP experiments. He holds three patents and has authored > 100 publications.
