Title: Comparison of Lattice Options for the APS Upgrade
Speaker:Michael Borland (Argonne)
Moderaror: Prof.Qin Qing
Time: 02:30PM, Dec 7
Place: Room B326, IHEP Main Building
Abstract:
The Advanced Photon Source is a 7 GeV third-generation storage ring light source that has been in operation for more than 20 years. Thanks to advances in accelerator physics and technology, it is possible to upgrade the ring to increase x-ray brightness by more than two orders of magnitude. This presentation reviews several lattice options for the upgraded ring and gives a survey of some of the physics analysis. We'll also describe considerations related to switching to a low-frequency rf system.

About the speaker:
Michael Borland is Associate Director of the Accelerator Systems Division at Argonne National Laboratory and an Argonne Distinguished Fellow. He originated and is the lead author of the widely-used simulation code ELEGANT. Previous projects include a 1.5-cell thermionic rf gun for SSRL and APS, the APS Positron Accumulator Ring, and high-level automation for the APS control room. He is presently leading the beam physics effort for the APS Upgrade Project.
