【1.25】Academic Lecture: Accelerator Activities in SLAC
Title: Accelerator Activities in SLAC
Time: 14:30, January 25, 2013
Place: Room C305, IHEP Main Building
Moderator: Qin Qing
Abstract:
In this seminar we review historical developments at SLAC starting with fixed-target experiments, the rise of storage rings, SPEAR, PEP the SLC linear collider and finally the last big HEP experiment at SLAC, PEP-II. The next phase followed conversion of SPEAR into a dedicated light source leading to the LCLS and re-definition of SLAC as a Photon Science laboratory. Presently SLAC is expanding laser laboratory capability for basic science, cosmological research facilities and has goals to construct LCLS-II and PEP-X in the future in parallel with smaller scale accelerator projects for developmental work.
About the speaker:
Dr. Jeff Corbett has worked 23 years at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory on accelerator design, beam feedback and machine operations and diagnostic systems. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at UC Berkeley and a PhD in Nuclear Fusion and Plasma Physics from the University of California at Los Angeles. He presently serves at the Instrumentation system manager for SPEAR3 and is the Deputy Laser Safety Officer at SLAC. He chaired the IPAC12 Scientific Program Committee (SPC) and also serves the IPAC13 SPC as a member.
