Abstract:
BNL has been at the forefront of the prototype and novel detector development and fabrications for a variety of new Si detectors with novel electrode configurations for applications in high energy (harsh radiation environment) and nuclear physics (e.g. CERN sLHC and BNL RHIC-Upgrade), and in photon sciences (BNL NSLS and NSLS II). Novel 2D-sentive, one-sided Stripixel detectors, developed at BNL, have now been installed and successfully commissioned in the PHENIX Upgrade’s VTX detector system at RHIC. The new 3D-Stripixel detector prototypes are now being developed at BNL, and are ready for charge collection tests. Extensive 1D and 2D simulations and modeling of the BNL’s newly invented 3D-Trench-Electrode detectors have been carried out. The design and production of the mask set for the prototype detectors have been completed. The first prototype 3D-Trench-Electrode detectors are now being fabricated, and expected for electrical and charge collection testing late this year (2011). The best characteristics of the new 3D-Trench-Electrode detectors will be presented, and their applications in sLHC (super-rad-hard), and photon science (low C, low voltages, and natural isolation of cells (or pixels) in an array) will be discussed.
