Fernando Ferroni appointed as the president of the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics

Fernando Ferroni was appointed today, with a ministerial decree, as the president of the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN). Ferroni replaces Roberto Petronzio that guided INFN for seven years.

Fernando Ferroni, born in Rome in 1952, obtained in 1975 his B. physics degree at the University La Sapienza of Rome where he is currently Professor. Ferroni worked at CERN in Geneva. Firstly, in the 1980's on neutrino's experiments and then at the L3 experiment at LEP. At the beginning of the 1990's he started to collaborate to the BaBar experiment at SLAC for the study of the CP violation in the quark beauty decay. Ferroni is currently working at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory of INFN on the research of the neutrinoless double beta decay at the Experiment CUORE and on an innovative project financed by the European research council named LUCIFER Ferroni is author of more then 700 scientific papers and has been involved in many international committee on High energy physics.
