Training for next-generation high energy physicists
The Sixth Overseas Chinese Physics Association (OCPA) accelerator school was held in Miyun County, Beijing from July 29 to August 7, 2010. 27 Chinese lecturers, including those from overseas, were invited to give lectures. 78 students from China, including those from Taiwan, attended the school.
Different from the previous ones, OCPA2010 arranged lessons not only on basic accelerator theories but also on the neutron sources and accelerator therapy facilities. Since proton and heavy ion accelerators have become a hot point for research in domestic laboratories, this year's curriculum, designed to be closely related to the frontier topics, included basic theories on different types of accelerators, containing spallation neutron source and hadron therapy.
Without a large batch of talented young scientists and technicians, the accelerator research in China could not be further developed. The school provides the students with a basic training on modern accelerators and with a program that is both exciting and practical, aiming to cultivate the next-generation high energy physicists in China.
