US DOE officials call at IHEP

A five-member-DOE delegation, led by Dr. William F. BRINKMAN, Director of the Office of Science, U.S. Department of Energy 

 
 both sides have detailed discussion
(DOE) called at the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) on June 22.

Dr. CHEN Hesheng, Director of IHEP, extended his warm welcome to the guests and introduced the progress and scientific activities at IHEP. Chen briefly reviewed the history of the US-PRC cooperation on high-energy physics, which was initiated by Mr. Deng Xiaoping in 1979 when both countries formally signed the agreement on science and technology cooperation for the first time.

Both sides discussed the current cooperation and ways to further push it forward. Currently, the interested areas for cooperation include the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII), the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) and the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment, etc. Potential cooperation on deep underground experiment was also discussed. After discussions, the guests toured BEPCII.

Before visiting IHEP, the delegation called at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and met with Mr. LI Jinghai, Vice President of CAS.There, discussions on cooperation on high energy physics, clean energy, atmospheric physics and ITER were held and the possibility of signing a CAS-DOE Framework Cooperation Agreement was explored.
