Exploring mysteries of mass and enjoying charms of science is the theme of the day - May 15th, 2010 which is the 6th IHEP

Dr. ZHANG Chuang gives a report in the lecture hall
Public Science Day. This day the Institute of High Energy Physics opened its five laboratories and a research center to the public, when they could have a chance to visit the Beijing Electron Positron Collider National Laboratory, CAS Key Laboratory for Nuclear Analytical Techniques, CAS Key Laboratory for Biomedical Effects of Nanomaterials and Nanosafety, IHEP Key Laboratory for Particle Astrophysics and Computing Center.

At 8:30 a welcome ceremony was opened by Prof. JIANG Xiaoming, Associate Director of IHEP who introduced to the visitors the scientific activities at IHEP. Several popular scientific reports followed. Dr. ZHANG Chuang gave a talk named IHEP and the Collider. Dr. FU Shinian gave a talk about the accelerator research activities at IHEP. Visitors then watched videos, toured the facilities and experimental areas, such as the linear collider, the BEPC/BES prototypes, the central control room, synchrotron radiation beamlines and the mainframe computer, etc.

The day, attracting over 1400 visitors who came from middle schools and research institutions and universities in Beijing, is a response to the national call of holding scientific activities for the public, which aims to strengthen education in such areas as saving energy and resources, protecting environment and improving quality of life.
