30th Meeting of U.S./ PRC Joint Committee on High Energy Physics Held at SLAC
The 30th Meeting of the U.S. /PRC Joint Committee on High Energy Physics took place on November 19-20, 2009 at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, USA. The Chinese delegation was led by Dr. Li Ding, Director-General of the Bureau of Basic Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the U.S. delegation was led by Dr. Dennis Kovar, Associate Director of the Office of Science for High Energy Physics, US Department of Energy.
At the meeting, heads of both delegations congratulated on the 30th anniversary of the collaboration and reviewed the outstanding achievements of the cooperative activities over the past thirty years. Other reports were made at the meeting covering the progress of the Upgrade Project of the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII), China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), Daya Bay Experiment and Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF). After extended discussions, the 30th U.S./PRC Cooperative Program in High Energy Physics for 2009-2010 was agreed upon by the Joint Committee.
As invited guest, Mr. Zhan Wenlong, Vice President of CAS attended the meeting and made a brief speech, in which he spoke highly of the PRC/U.S. Cooperation in high energy physics and expressed CAS’s strong support for the collaboration.
