On June 4th Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Croatia to PR China, Professor Ante Simoni？ and Scientific Director of OIKON-Ltd., Institute for Applied Ecology, Croatia, Dr. Zdravko ？piri？ visited IHEP. Dr. ？piri？ is the top Croatian Official of PHIME, a project of the EU 6th Framework Programme (FP6). Scientists from Croatia and China are now jointly applying for more Sino-Croatian governmental collaborations.

　　CAS Academician Chai zhifang extended warm welcome to Ambassador Simoni？ and Dr. ？piri？. At the meeting, both sides shared the research progress at IHEP and in the circle of environment, human health and petroleum industry. Ambassador Simoni？ expressed that he was more than happy to support the collaboration between China and Croatia in the future. The foreign guests visited CAS Key Laboratory of Nuclear Analysis Techniques and CAS Key Laboratory of Biological Activities of Nanoscale Materials.

　　June 5 is the World Environment Day (WED), which was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972. The theme for WED 2009 is “Your Planet Needs You-Unite to Combat Climate Change”. The China theme of 2009 World Environment Day released by Ministry of Environment is “Reducing Pollution: Time for Action”. This visit is one of the registered events in celebrating the WED at IHEP.
