Exciting News from the Experimental Physics Center (EPC)
Following the successful fabrication of the first CSC prototype for CMS by CMS/CSC group, the Experimental Center, and the appraisal of the prototype by experts both home and abroad and the batch assemblage and test in August last year, recently another exciting development came up.
By overcoming the difficulty in assemblage arising from the delayed delivery of the imported components from USA and many stoppages because of the lack of soldering tin, all members of CMS/CSC have developed the team spirit and lost no time in establishing a high quality and speedy production line. After the hard work of several mouths, 1/3 of the cathode strip chambers were manufactured before July 1, thus making up for the lost time. Now they have assembled 50 cathode strip chambers. 40 of them passed the test with high voltage and 12 were filled with working gas, which are going to undergo a two-month long high voltage and stability test.
