Professor Fang Shouxian, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences gave a lecture on spallation neutron source (SNS) and clean nuclear energy (ADS) at IHEP on August 12, 2002. He pointed out in his lecture that the spallation neutron source and clean nuclear energy (ADS) are important applications of proton accelerators. The high power proton accelerators is a key technology of SNS and ADS. IHEP started the initiative of HPPA for R&D of some key technologies and devices. After summarizing neutron application and its effect on the social development, he reviewed the current status of spallation neutron source and looked forward to its development. He also elaborated the development of accelerator driven sub-critical system.

　　This lecture was given to promote the literacy of accelerator applications among non-professionals doing administrative work. This is the fourth academic lecture of its kind arranged by the Accelerator Center thus far, in hopes of widening the knowledge of administrators and encouraging them to better serve those working in the frontline of scientific research. The lectures given have aroused great interest from the administrators and mobilized their great enthusiasm in their work.
