Collaborative Efforts on CMS Detector Crowned with Success
Thanks to the efforts made by the CMS/IHEP group in April, noticeable progress has been made in the development of the detector and the adjustment of the cosmic ray on-line measurement system.
Despite the shortage of manpower, the CMS/IHEP group initiated the installation of the front-end electronic parts of the cathode strip drift chamber and the cable, and the adjustment of the cosmic ray on-line data acquisition system. With the help of Mr. Victor Barashiko from University of Florida, the VME on-line software was successfully adjusted. It took only more than 3 weeks to have tested 5 ME1/2 cathode strip drift chambers and removed the front-end electronic parts with problem. More than 20 tested results have met the requirement of the CMS/EMU system. In addition, 8 cathode strip drift chambers were assembled in April, a record high in the year.
