Superconducting Magnet Girder Successfully Installed
With unified efforts from the Accelerator Division, Technical Support Division, State Asset Division and the Logistics Service Center, the superconducting magnet girder was successfully installed at the BEPCII IR region on November 29th, 2005.
The installation had been divided into two phases. The first was the installation of the concrete foundation containing 4 pieces (9 tons each). They had to be overturned for 180° degrees after being moved into the BES Hall and to be welded into one after being put into place. This had been a great effort due to the fact that it was very difficult to apply heavy machines because of the narrow space. The second phase was the installation of the girder itself. The first step was to install on the concrete foundation a 4- meter long machine base and a 2- meter long cantilever. The job was not only difficult but a bit risky in that a series of strict procedures had to be followed, such as lifting, moving, measuring, welding , etc. The whole job, scheduled to be finished in two weeks, turned out to be completed in only six days.
The successful installation had made ready preparations for future installation of various kinds of magnets and other equipments.
