Mini-Workshop on BEPCII Background
15 scientists including 6 invited speakers overseas attended the Mini-Workshop on BEPCII Background Study which was convened at IHEP, Beijing from March 10 to 12, 2008.
Experimental data and preliminary analysis on the BEPCII background measurement were presented by IHEP scientists. Experience and results on background study in such factory-type e+-e- colliders/detectors as PEP-II/BaBar, KEKB/Belle and DAFNE were also reported at the workshop by the scientists from those facilities.
With those data and presentations as the basis for the study, the workshop intensively discussed and studied the background issues of the BEPCII/BESIII in order to determine if the radiation level was low enough for the BESIII detector to be rolled into the interaction region of the BEPCII and to foresee the background and noise level in the detector during its data taking.
Valuable suggestions and advice were made. As the old saying goes "The last ten miles are the most difficult", even greater efforts are needed before operation of high intensity, high luminosity, low radiation and low backgroung can be achieved.
