Mr. Lu Yongxiang Met with Dr. Rolf-Dieter Heuer
Lu Yongxiang first expressed his warm welcome to Dr. Heuer, and then recalled his first visit to CERN almost a decade ago. He commented that CERN had developed very good relations with the Chinese physical communities, including CAS institutes and universities, and further expressed that CAS would continue to support the CAS institutes and scientists to join CERN programs.
Dr. Heuer thanked President Lu for meeting them albeit being very busy. He introduced the cooperation that has been successfully executed between CERN and CAS institutes and universities, and wished that the cooperation would continue and could be extended to many other fields, like LHC upgrade and SPL R&D, he further mentioned his idea about the new partnership with non-CERN-member states.
In response to Dr. Heuer’s idea about the new partnership with non-CERN- member states, Lu proposed a network structure in which CERN would be the Central Laboratory while the collaborating laboratories would be the satellite ones. Lu’s proposal was highly appreciated by Dr. Heuer who replied that this would be discussed with the collaborating laboratories in the months to come. Other topics of mutual interest were also discussed.
Mr. Zhan Wenlong, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Li Ding, Director of the Bureau of Basic Research, CAS, Mr.Chen Hesheng, Director of IHEP, Mr.Qiu Juliang, Deputy Director of Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS, were present at the meeting.
