From April 10 to 13, a delegation led by Prof. Pongruk Sribanditmongkol, President of Chiang Mai University (CMU) in Thailand, and Assco. Prof. Winita Punyodom, Vice President of CMU, visited the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The delegation conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges, and visited relevant laboratories and large research infrastructures of IHEP. Prof. CAO Jun, Director of IHEP, Prof. WANG Sheng, Deputy Director, Prof. DONG Yuhui, Deputy Director, Prof. WEN Liangjian, Deputy Director, Academician CAO Zhen, and research fellows from various relevant fields attended the meeting respectively.

Prof. CAO Jun, director of IHEP, extended a warm welcome to the CMU delegation for their visit. He stated that on the basis of good cooperation, the two sides have achieved mutual visits, signed MOU, and CMU has officially joined High-energy Underwater Neutrino Telescope (HUNT) project, laying a solid foundation for in-depth cooperation. Deputy Director Prof. WEN Liangjian delivered a report on the overview of IHEP, as well as the cooperation and achievements carried out with Thai universities and research institutions in related fields in recent years.

President Pongruk Sribanditmongkol expressed sincere gratitude to IHEP for its warm reception and spoke highly of the achievements made by IHEP in basic scientific research and the construction of large research infrastructures. Subsequently, Assoc. Prof. Winita Punyodom, Vice President of CMU, introduced the university’s advantageous research fields, as well as the progress and gains in previous cooperation with IHEP. The two sides conducted in-depth discussions on mutually concerned research directions such as archaeology, medical applications and, neutrino astronomy, reached broad consensus, and clarified that they will further deepen cooperation in related fields, actively explore cooperation models such as personnel exchanges and joint programs, and promote the coordinated development of both sides in scientific research and talent training.

During the visit, the delegation successively visited large research infrastructures including Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC), High Energy Photon Source (HEPS), Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) and China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS). This further enhanced their understanding of IHEP’s scientific research strength and laid a solid foundation for future cooperation.
