On October 29, Dr. Juan Cruz Cigudosa, Secretary of State, aheading Spanish delegation from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain visited the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS).

DONG Yuhui, Deputy Director of IHEP and Executive Deputy Director of HEPS, welcomed the delegation and introduced the current status of IHEP, focusing on the progress of the HEPS project. Dr. Juan Cruz Cigudosa introduced Spain’s facilities and achievements in related fields. He mentioned that ALBA, a third-generation synchrotron radiation facility in Spain, has started its renovation project to transform the ALBA Synchrotron into a fourth-generation light source: ALBA II. He looked forward to collaborating with IHEP on HEPS to promote scientific and technological innovation and development in the field of synchrotron radiation.

In the discussion, two sides explored some collaboration opportunities, such as creating some kind of joint research structure, developing some joint R&D programs and industrial connection. Meanwhile, FENG Hua, director of the Key Laboratory of Particle Astrophysics, participated in the meeting and exchanged ideas on long-term collaboration and future intentions for space projects with the Spanish side.

After the meeting, the delegation toured the HEPS experimental hall, central control room and the Platform of Advanced Photon Source Technology R&D.
