Eighth IHEP-KEK SCRF Collaboration Meeting Held in Japan
The High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) and the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) held the 8th IHEP-KEK Superconducting Radio Frequency (SCRF) Technology Cooperation Meeting in KEK, Japan from Dec. 2 and 3. More than 30 experts from KEK and IHEP attended the meeting. As it is the first time of this collaboration series meeting held in Japan, a nine-person IHEP experts delegated by Prof. GAO Jie, the Vice Chairman of the CEPC Institutional Board, the head of the CEPC Accelerator, the Chairman of the Asian Linear Collider Steering Committee, attended the meeting. Prof. Shinichiro Michizono, the head of the ILC Accelerator of the International Linear Collider Collaboration delegated KEK Group.
The meeting aimed to encourage scientists to exchange recent advances in SCRF technology for the CEPC and ILC projects between IHEP and KEK, and promote the collaboration in superconducting accelerator technology in the future.
The meeting was chaired by Prof. Eiji Kako, the visiting professor at IHEP. Prof. Seiya Yamaguchi, the head of Accelerator department at KEK attended the meeting and delivered a welcome speech.
The two days meeting has arranged 16 reports. Prof. Shinichiro Michizono reported ILC status, and Prof. GAO Jie reported CEPC status. Other talks from both sides were on the pre-study of superconducting high-frequency systems, nitrogen infusion for 1.3 GHz SRF cavities, new materials for superconducting cavities, superconducting accelerating module, superconducting cavity electric polishing (EP) system, CEPC input coupler, CEPC HOM coupler and absorber, and superconducting laboratory construction, etc. Achievements and specific future collaboration items were discussed for the coming year. The two sides will mainly carry out cooperation in nitrogen doping technology, new SC materials, key components of superconducting accelerators, etc.
After the meeting, Chinese participants visited some superconducting accelerator R&D platform and experimental facilities such as CFF, cERL and STF at KEK. They had extensive discussion with KEK experts.
