CSNS Beam Power Reaches 80 kW

2019-09-30

The China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) reached a beam power of 80 kW on Sept. 27, 2019, thus taking a further step towards its design goal of 100 kW.

Before this achievement, CSNS had been shut down for a two-month summer maintenance period. During this time, testing and normal maintenance were conducted on both the software and hardware devices of the accelerator and target station systems in order to eliminate any potential problems or danger associated with an increase in beam power. After the accelerator resumed operation in September, its beam power was gradually increased from 50 kW to 65 kW, and finally to 80 kW on September 27. The beam current and machine parameters were optimized and beam loss was strictly controlled.
