Springer Nature and IHEP Join Hands in Academic Publishing on IHEP Research
Springer Nature, a world leading research publisher, has decided to collaborate with the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) on academic publishing and communications related to Chinese high energy physics research and the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC), a potential next-generation collider in China. This consensus was reached during a visit by a delegation from Springer Nature to IHEP on May 22.
Prof. Wang Yifang, IHEP director and editor-in-chief of Chinese Physics C, met with Sir Philip Campbell, editor-in-chief of Springer Nature Research, and his colleagues. During the meeting, Wang gave an overview of IHEP's research achievements and its current large scientific facilities. Campbell introduced Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)developed by world leaders as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Springer Nature's plans to publish a corresponding series on the SDGs.
The two sides also had an in-depth discussion on open science and its future, decision-making procedure science for project, and the status of large colliders globally. Campbell was very interested in the budget and scientific goals of CEPC. He also enquired about the core technology China has mastered as well as the internal and international challenges related to CEPC.
Describing CEPC as the“top-level collider of the next generation”, Wang said that “China is very willing to cooperate with scientists all over the world to establish CEPC.”
Campbell said, "Springer Nature will continuously give more academic publishing support and international cooperation to the Chinese high energy physics field. We will cooperate on CEPC's academic communications and support the construction and development of China's CEPC project.”
Meeting attendees toured the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, the Beijing Spectrometer and the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility after the meeting.
Prof. Li Weiguo, editor-in-chief of Radiation Detection Technology and Methods; Prof. Zhang Chuang, editor-in-chief of Modern Physics; Prof.Lu Caidian, associate editor-in-chief of Chinese Physics C; Prof. Lou Xinchou, director of Experimental Physics Division, Ms. Zheng Wenli, director of Library and Information Services, and other staff members attended the meeting.
