7th IHEP-KEK SCRF Collaboration Meeting Held at IHEP
The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) and the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) held the 7th Superconducting Radio Frequency (SCRF) Technology Cooperation Meeting in Beijing on Sept. 22.
The timing of the meeting was set before the Japanese government would state whether Japan intends to host the International Linear Collider (ILC) at the end of this year. Seventeen experts from Japan's KEK and Kyoto University and IHEP attended the meeting.
The conference aimed to encourage scientists to exchange recent advances in SCRF technology for the CEPC and ILC projects between IHEP and KEK, and promote the collaboration in superconducting accelerator technology in the future.
The meeting was co-chaired by Prof. GAO Jie, the Vice Chairman of the CEPC Institutional Committee, the head of the CEPC Accelerator, the Chairman of the Asian Linear Collider Steering Committee, and Prof. Shinichiro Michizono, the head of the ILC Accelerator of the International Linear Collider Cooperative, and the head of KEK ILC. Prof. Chen Gang, IHEP deputy director attended the meeting and delivered a welcome speech.
The meeting featured 19 reports on the progress of ILC and CEPC projects and the pre-study of superconducting high-frequency systems, nitrogen infusion for 1.3 GHz SRF cavities, new materials for superconducting cavities, superconducting accelerating module, IHEP newly equiped superconducting cavity electric polishing(EP) system, CEPC input coupler, CEPC HOM coupler and absorber, and superconducting laboratory construction, etc. Achievements and specific future collaboration were introduced and summed up for the coming year. The two sides will mainly carry out cooperation in nitrogen infusion technology, new materials, key components of superconducting accelerators, etc.
After the meeting, some Japanese participants visited PAPS in Huairou Science City, and expressed their deep impression on the planning and construction progress of the superconducting laboratory.
