The winners of the first physics photowalk at the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) were announced after two rounds of voting by the local judges on August 27.

The first physics photowalk competition at the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) gathered 12 selected photographers into five areas of the institute for three hours on August 7, to explore the physics laboratories freely and photograph the physics behind the scenes.

The photographers were then asked to submit their best pictures, and a panel of local judges selected their favorites. The top three photos have been entered into an international competition organized by Interaction Collaborations.

This event was the first IHEP Photowalk. The IHEP event is part of the Global Physics Photowalk, organized by the Interactions collaboration and hosted this summer at 17 labs around the world. This year’s event features labs and institutions in Australia, Europe and Asia, as well as the United States.

The global competition opened on Monday, Aug. 27, and includes a public vote as well as a juried selection. Each laboratory has entered its top three images into the global contest, and a public online vote will choose the top three, while a panel of expert photographers and scientists will also choose their three favorites. Below is a gallery of the 10 winning photos from the IHEP selection, which will then participate in the international selection. Global winners will be publicly announced on Sunday 1 October, at the international Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) annual conference in Hartford, Connecticut.
