CEPC Workshop Held in Italy

2018-06-08

The first European workshop on the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) was held in Roma Tre University in Rome, Italy, from May 24 to 26 2018.

This was the first time that a CEPC workshop was held overseas. More than 100 scientists from all over the world participated, of which more than 40 were from the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) and Chinese universities and enterprises. Some experts from similar projects, such as the Future Circular Collider (FCC), the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC), and the International Linear Collider (ILC), were invited to join the workshop.

These scientists gathered together to discuss key technical issues such as the accelerator and detector of the future CEPC. They also had extensive and deep discussion on how to strengthen cooperation among the projects, and the countries and institutions involved.

About 100 reports were delivered, in five parallel sessions. Progress on CEPC R&D was reported from some aspects, such as accelerators, detectors, and their interfaces. The workshop also invited some senior experts in the field of high-energy physics to participate in a panel discussion, addressing all the participants, looking at how to promote CEPC R&D and realize the CEPC project.

In the future, the CEPC will have closer ties with similar international projects. It is now planned to regularly hold this workshop overseas, to attract more international colleagues and research institutions to join and make the CEPC project international.

The Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) was proposed by Chinese high-energy physicists in 2012. The Conceptual Design Report for the CEPC and its proposed successor the Super Proton-Proton Collider (SppC) will be released in 2018, laying a good foundation for the technical design report in the future.
