IHEP and Sun Yat-Sen University Launch Strategic Cooperation
The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) and Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU) signed a strategic cooperation agreement on December 13th. The two institutions have agreed to long-term cooperation in areas including joint construction of spectrometers for the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), training of personnel, information exchanges, and technology transfer.
The agreement was signed against the background of CSNS preparing to open to users soon. Prof. Wang Yifang, Director of IHEP, commented that the cooperation with SYSU would attract more users for the CSNS project and contribute to scientific and economic development in Guangdong province.
Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, explained that combining IHEP’s experience in large science facilities and SYSU’s advantages in multi-disciplinary research will lead to fruitful achievements in personnel training and research development at SYSU.
According to the agreement, the two institutions will collaborate in the joint construction of the High Energy Direct Geometric Inelastic Neutron Scattering Spectrometer, a supercomputing application platform for CSNS, and a neutron medical application platform.
As well as building these instruments, the agreement covers the establishing of joint research and development institutions in related fields, the exploration and cultivation of cutting-edge technology in the application of neutron scattering and neutron detection, simulation, data processing (storage and analysis) and related experimental technology, and the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO).
