2017-12-11

The Thirty-Eighth Meeting of the PRC-US Joint Committee for Cooperation in High Energy Physics was held at the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, from December 9th to 10th, 2017.

The Chinese delegation was led by Dr. Gao Hongjun, Director-General of the Bureau of Frontier Sciences and Education, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The U.S. delegation was led by Dr. Glen Crawford, Director, Research and Technology Division, Office of High Energy Physics, U.S. Department of Energy. Prof. Zhang Jie, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with the U.S. delegates and witnessed the signing of the meeting agreement.

The Meeting started with opening remarks from the Co-Chairs, followed by presentations on the program status and plans for IHEP, SINAP and IMP.  Representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) reported on U.S. high energy physics and nuclear physics programs.

Collaborative efforts and activities in 2017 were reviewed, followed by reports on themes including accelerator science and technology, neutrino physics, astroparticle physics, heavy ion physics and hadron physics, covering projects including the Ali-CMB project, CEPC, Daya Bay, LBNF and BESIII. The U.S. Co-Chair presented the DOE engagement perspective on the PRC-US Collaboration. Detailed discussion of the 2017-2018 cooperation was then held.

It is planned to hold the next meeting of the US-PRC Joint Committee on High Energy Physics at Fermilab in November 2018.
