Second IAC Meeting of High Energy Photon Source-Test Facility Held

2017-12-01

The Second International Advisory Committee (IAC) Meeting of the High Energy Photon Source-Test Facility (HEPS-TF) was held at the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) from Nov.15th to 17th.

Thirteen IAC members, experts in accelerators, beamlines, and stations from Europe, Asia and the Americas, attended the meeting to review the research on the HEPS-TF project, and the preliminary design of the future project, HEPS.

Prof. Qin Qing, Manager of the HEPS-TF project, reviewed  the progress of the test facility and the status of the HEPS project , and he addressed comments and suggestions made by the IAC in 2016 as well.

Over the following three days, each project group reported the progress on the accelerator design, beamline, conventional  facilities, and so on. The committee toured the laboratories and praised the research achievements of the HEPS-TF project over the past year, expressing their confidence on the HEPS project undertaken by IHEP in the near future.

The IAC members reviewed the key issues in the HEPS-TF hardware system. Detailed suggestions and comments were given on the HEPS storage ring accelerator physics design, the preliminary design of the injector, beamline design, as well as the conventional facilities concerning and the ground motion studies.

The HEPS will be approved soon and its construction is scheduled in late 2018. A new International Advisory Committee for the project HEPS will be organized based on the IAC of the HEPS-TF. Qin Qing expressed his hope that all the IAC members would continue to support the project in the future.
