The 17th International Workshop for the Next Generation Nucleon Decay and Neutrino Detector (NNN) was held at the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) from Nov. 3rd to 5th, 2016. Over a hundred researchers from particle physics laboratories and universities worldwide participated in this meeting.
Prof. Wang Yifang, director of IHEP, welcomed the participants. This International Symposium focuses on the physics goals and detector technology of the next generation large nucleon decay and neutrino detectors, which are under construction or planning. There were 32 plenary talks, 18 parallel talks, and 9 poster presentations, with lively discussions throughout the event.
NNN was proposed by Prof. Chang Kee Jung of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and aimed at discussing the most advanced particle physics in the world, especially neutrino physics and related detectors. NNN has been held annually since 1999, rotating between the United States, Europe and Japan, and has provided valuable exchanges of ideas and experience for the world’s existing neutrino experiments.
This is the first time that NNN has been held outside America, Europe and Japan. It is hoped that this workshop will attract more domestic and foreign experts and young researchers in the neutrino field to participate in the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) experiment, and further promote the development of international cooperation.
