The last neutron beam shutter gate top shielding block for the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) was successfully installed on September 11th. It means the main mechanical units of the Neutron Beam Shutter Equipment Assembly (NBSEA) for the shielding system have completed a phased installation, which is an important milestone for CSNS construction.
The NBSEA is a key part of the CSNS target station, with 20 sets of shutter equipment in total. As it is needed to ensure normal operation of the target station and instruments, it is directly related to the effective utilization rate of the neutron beam, and to the radiation safety and efficiency of neutron scattering experiments in the experimental hall.
The completed installation of the main mechanical units of NBSEA has laid a solid foundation for subsequent work, including installation of the rest of the equipment and joint debugging. This is a key step forward towards successful completion of the CSNS project.
