2016-07-27

While students in China are enjoying their summer break, more than 80 undergraduates from dozens of universities and colleges have been invited to participate in the 2016 summer camp for college students at the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP), Beijing. The camp began on July 19th.

The young participants will be able to visit some of IHEP’s main facilities, including BEPCII, BSRF, the Computing Center, the Division of Nuclear Technology and Applications and the State Key Laboratory of Particle Detection and Electronics.

To put the young students a taste of a real work atmosphere, some of IHEP’s top scientists will give lectures on general relativity, gravitational waves, neutrino physics, accelerators and nano-materials applications. Students will have opportunities to talk in depth with leading scientists and potential future tutors at IHEP.

During the opening ceremony, Prof. WEI Long, Deputy Director of IHEP, welcomed the participants. He later introduced the history of the institute, the major science facilities and current research activities at IHEP, and encouraged the participants to have a pleasant and meaningful experience at the summer camp.

Launched in 2013, the 2016 summer camp is the fourth camp and it has grown to be an important annual activity at IHEP. Students at the camp can experience the strong academic atmosphere, visit the large science facilities, make new friends and broaden their horizons.
