The International Workshop on eXTP (enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarization Satellite) was held at IHEP from October 26 to 27, 2015. More than 40 scholars from home and abroad attended the workshop.
IHEP Associate Director Chen Gang delivered welcome remarks. Associate Director General of the CAS Bureau of Major Research and Development Programs Yu Yingjie addressed the workshop. He appraised the international collaboration involved in carrying out the relevant studies and expressed his firm support to the project.
The workshop discussed and determined the eXTP scientific objectives and payloads, concluding the baseline of the eXTP satellite within the context that it would make major progress in unveiling the fundamental physics in extreme gravity field, density and magnetic field by observing black holes, neutron stars, and magnetars in the universe.
The attendees all agreed that eXTP, combining the advantages of the Chinese XTP (X-ray Timing and Polarization Satellite) and the European LOFT (Large Observatory For X-ray Timing), would be of unique observation capability. It is expected that a large amount of scientific results would be obtained from the eXTP studies. With active participation of the international collaborating teams, the R&D of eXTP will be soon started.
