The First HEPS (High Energy Photon Source) Materials Beamline User Workshop, hosted by USTB (University of Science and Technology Beijing) and organized by the National Center for Materials Service Safety, was successfully held in the city of Jilin from August 26 to 28, 2015. More than 70 people from about 20 universities and institutes attended the workshop. 

Vice President of USTB and Director for HEPS-TF Engineering Materials Research Sun Dongbai chaired the workshop and made welcome remarks. He pointed out that as the co-constructor of HEPS-TF and by hosting this workshop, USTB aimed to cultivate high-end users for HEPS and to explore key technologies for the construction of HEPS engineering materials beamlines. 

Deputy Director of HEPS-TF Dong Yuhui gave an invited talk at the workshop. He introduced the significance, parameters and the key technologies of HEPS. The experts attending the workshop discussed and put forward the requirements of frontier engineering materials studies upon HEPS. 

During the workshop, the “HEPS Engineering Materials Beamlines User Alliance” was established. The organization, responsibilities, rules of the Alliance were discussed and agreed upon. It was decided that the meeting of the Council of the Alliance would be convened as soon as possible. 

This workshop, facing the urgent requirements of engineering materials science research, is the first time in the field. IHEP co-hosted the workshop.
