2015 LHAASO Summer School Successfully Held

2015-09-01

The first LHAASO (Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory) summer school was successfully held at IHEP on August 17 to 21, 2015.

The school was organized by IHEP and invited about 20 professors to give lectures. More than 60 students and young researchers from IHEP, ITP and about 10 universities attended the school. The school courses mainly included 19 lectures, covering cosmic rays, ultra-high gamma ray astronomy, particle physics and dark matter. Starting with LHAASO in construction and the past experience in international collaboration, the professors systematically introduced the cosmic ray detection technologies, electronics and data-taking technologies.

The school lasted about one week with active interactions, from which the students benefitted a lot. This school aims to build up a training platform for young students and researchers to take part in the construction and experiment of LHAASO. Its success will certainly bring experience to future schools of same sort.

After the school courses, the teachers and students visited the LHAASO laboratory, BESIII and BEPCII.
