The Institute of High Energy Physics held the 11th Public Science Day at Yuquan campus on May 16. The theme of the day was "a voyage of exploring the mysteries of the micro-world ".
IHEP opened laboratories and research centers to the public, giving visitors a chance to explore the accelerator tunnel at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider National Laboratory, as well as other facilities including the CAS Key Laboratory for Nuclear Analytical Techniques, the IHEP Key Laboratory for Particle Astrophysics, and the IHEP Computing Center.
On the day, three IHEP scientists delivered stimulating lectures, which were well-received by the public. The lectures were also broadcasted online. In addition, the newly-built IHEP Exhibition Hall was open to the public for the first time. A special exhibition on student and employee recruitment at IHEP was also included.
At the opening ceremony for the day, Prof. CHEN Gang gave an introduction to IHEP. The public has a close chance to meet the scientists and to experience the charm of the scientific research. The day, attracting over 1500 visitors from middle schools and research institutions and universities across Beijing, is a response to the national call to holding scientific activities for the public. Over 140 volunteers and dozens of scientific researchers joined the IHEP public science day this year.
