The Chins Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) frontend was successfully installed on April 6, 2015. It took only 15 days for the sub-systems to work together and finish the integrated commissioning. On April 21, the RFQ of CSNS got its first negative hydrogen ion beam at 3 MeV with a pulse width of 50μs, the peak intensity reached 28mA(the designed value is 15mA).
The CSNS frontend is composed of negative hydrogen ion source, low energy transport line, mid-energy transport line and RFQ. They are the first batch of equipment that had been installed and commissioned, which lays a good foundation for the drift tube linac and the synchrotron.
The RFQ beam is one of the important milestones for the CSNS construction and beam commissioning. For this, a summary meeting was held by the Project Management. MA Li, deputy project director, spoke highly of the success at the meeting, commenting that it was a good beginning for the equipment installation and beam commissioning.
