The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Particle Accelerator Physics and Technologies Key Laboratory was officially founded on February 27th 2015, with the ceremony immediately followed by its first annual academic meeting on February 28th.
This is a happy occasion for the Chinese accelerator field. Representatives from the CAS Headquarters and its institutes, universities, and collaborators from the United States attended the founding ceremony and academic meeting.
PAN Weimin, deputy director of IHEP, chaired the meeting. HOU Hongfei, division director from the CAS Bureau for Frontier Sciences and Education, read the CAS document authorizing the foundation of the laboratory. WANG Yifang, director of IHEP, spoke at the meeting, emphasizing that “the laboratory should aim at international frontiers of the field, produce more results by relying upon sound development of scientific disciplines, and serve the future construction of mega-science facilities based on accelerators and technology transfer.”
Speakers at the meeting reported on particle accelerator physics, RF, beam measurement and control, power source and microwave technologies, arousing active discussions. It was suggested that the laboratory should list priorities for its future development, striving to cultivate key disciplines that can lead world-class frontier research in the field.
