On the afternoon of January 26th, a group of 27 reporters from China Radio International (CRI) visited IHEP.
Prof. WANG Yifang, Director of IHEP, gave a warm welcome to the reporters and briefly introduced the history and main research fields of the institute, particularly the construction and operation of the large facilities. Prof. SHEN Xiaoyan, Deputy Director of the Experimental Physics Division and spokesperson of the BESIII experiment collaboration, gave a detailed introduction to BEPC and the Beijing Spectrometer Experiment. Prof. CAO Jun, Deputy Director of the Experimental Physics Division and spokesperson of the Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment collaboration, talked about neutrino experiments and current important achievements. Prof. CHEN Hesheng, Project Manager of the China Spallation Neutron Source(CSNS), introduced the construction and future applications of the spallation neutron source.
The reporters were greatly interested in the topics introduced and discussed various subjects with the scientists, including the current development of the institute, its achievements, international status, development targets and the growth of China’s internet technology, as well as black holes and dark matter. After the meeting, the reporters visited the BEPC central control room, guided by Prof. ZHANG Chuang.
This visit constitutes an important part of a series of science communication activiteis jointly launched by China Radio International and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. IHEP is one of the four CAS institutes visited by CRI reporters. This visit will enhance public understanding of basic science research at IHEP both in China and overseas.
