Visit of ZHU Min, Vice-President of South China University of Technology and his party to CSNS
WANG Dingsheng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and ZHU Min, Vice-President of South China University of Technology, led a 9-member group in a visit to the China Spallation Neutron Source on November 20th. CAS Academician CHEN Hesheng, CSNS Project Manager, MA Li, Project Executive Assistant Manager, XI Jiwei, Communist Party Secretary of Dongguan branch, LI Guangqian, Vice-Communist Party Secretary and other leaders hosted the visit, and held a symposium.
At the meeting, CHEN first expressed a warm welcome to the visitors, then expressed gratitude to Academician WANG for his strong support of the China Spallation Neutron Source project and for actively promoting the application of neutron scattering techniques. CHEN said that the final goal of the project construction is to provide for the application of further devices; the Spallation Neutron Source can provide a large-scale integrated research platform. Quoting the Chinese saying “you must sharpen your tool before you can achieve your work”, he hoped that SCUT could actively participate in the construction of the Spallation Neutron Source.
ZHU expressed gratitude for their reception, and replied that South China University of Technology has a lot of specific research fields in the fields of Physics, Materials and Chemistry, such as macromolecules, inorganic chemistry, metallic materials, new medicine research and so on. At the university, they are actively training users in neutron applications, and hope to carry out all-around cooperation with CSNS. Through this "weapon", they can improve the overall level of scientific research in related fields in SCUT and promote the development of these disciplines.
WANG noted that a South China Collaboration and Innovation Institute has been established by SCUT and Dongguan Government at Songshan Lake, where they are located adjacent to each other, and making it favorable for strengthening exchange and cooperation at multiple levels.
During the meeting, the participants watched a promotional film for the Spallation Neutron Source, listened to a presentation on the construction of the Spallation Neutron Source, the international cooperation, user training and other work. They then had an in-depth discussion on the CSNS construction and the application of neutron scattering techniques.
After the meeting, accompanied by MA, the SCUT group visited Test Hall One, Test Hall Two, the target station spectrometer unit area, the linear accelerator tunnel and other project construction sites. Both sides expressed willingness to sign the framework cooperation agreement as soon as possible, and to carry out all-around strategic cooperation.
Jia Xuejun, Deputy Director of the Neutron Science Division, Liu Chen, Deputy Director of the Political and Administrative Office, Wang Guoping, Deputy Director of the Research Program Office and researchers from the Neutron Science Division accompanied the visit.
