(CSNS) on April 24.

Prof. Chen Yanwei, Deputy Director of the IHEP Dongguan Branch, extended his warm welcome to the visitors. He introduced the social background of the major scientific facilities in China, the site-selection process for the CSNS project and the current organizational chart at CSNS.

The students listened to two stimulating lectures given by CSNS experts. Prof. Wang Fangwei explained the characteristics of neutrons and neutron scattering, why we need neutrons, and why we need to build the spallation neutron source. Prof. Wang called for more talented students to join in the scientific research and project construction, which is complicated but worth the effort in the future.

Prof. Fu Shinian delivered a lecture entitled Spallation Sources with High Power Proton Accelerators, in which he reviewed the evolution of spallation sources worldwide. While elaborating on the design and construction of CSNS, Prof. Fu emphasized the importance of teamwork in the CSNS project.

Following the lectures, students had a discussion with the scientists about the application areas, commissioning schedule of the facility, etc. A tour to the CSNS construction site was arranged at the end of the visit.
