The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) and University of Bonn (UB) joined in hands in the postgraduate education. Representing the two sides, Prof. WANG Yifang, IHEP Director and Prof. Ulf-G Meissner, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Bonn, signed a common Ph.D. program agreement on a joint education of postgraduates on March 21 in Beijing.
The agreement implements the common Ph.D. program in physics between the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Rheinische-Friedrich-Wilhelms Universit?t Bonn (University of Bonn) and IHEP. The objective is the construction of a coherent common Ph.D.-level program between UB and IHEP.
In 2012, a Sino-German Collaborative Research Center (CRC) on Symmetries and the Emergence of Structure in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) was established. The center has attracted over twenty experts on particle physics and nuclear physics to conduct the QCD theoretical studies involving in total six institutes and universities from both sides. The center was approved and supported by the German Science Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) and the Natural Science Foundation of China.
For an initial period of four years, students enrolled would be those who perform research related to the CRC110. If successful, this agreement will be extended to other fields of physics and astrophysics that are of common interest to both UB and IHEP. Both sides believe that the joint education of postgraduates would promote the cross-disciplinary collaboration and the training of young research staffs.
After signing the agreement, Prof. Meissner delivered a talk entitled Hunting for CP violation in electric dipole moments of baryons and light nuclei at IHEP and had a detailed discussion with the CRC members.
