Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment results published online

2012-04-26

On April 23, 2012, the paper of the experiment results was online published on Physics Review Letter (URL: http://prl.aps.org/abstract/PRL/v108/i17/e171803). With Prof. CAO Jun listed as the author and correspondent, the final edition will come out on Physics Review Letter which will be published on April 27, 2012.

On March 8, Prof. WANG Yifang, co-spokesperson and Chinese project manager of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment, announced the discovery of a new type of neutrino oscillation in Beijing. The Daya Bay collaboration’s first results indicate that theta one-three, expressed as sin2 2 θ13, is equal to 0.092 plus or minus 0.017.

A review article on Daya Bay Experiment was also available on the website of American Physics Society (URL:http://physics.aps.org/articles/v5/47). This article, entitled Rethinking the Neutrino——The Daya Bay Collaboration in China has discovered an unexpectedly large neutrino oscillation, was written by Prof. Janet Conrad at MIT. It was commented in the article that a not-so-tiny mixing angle forces us to rethink theory, calling for new explanations for why quarks and leptons are so different. It also opens the door to new experiments, potentially allowing the discovery of CP violation—a difference between neutrinos and antineutrinos that may be related to the matter asymmetry of the early universe.
