IHEP and PAL sign cooperation memorandum

The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) signed a memorandum of cooperation with Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL), Korea, on March 27 in Beijing to strengthen the future cooperation on PAL-XFEL Project.

Representing the two scientific institutes, Prof. WANG Yifang, the director of IHEP and Prof. KO In Soo, the manager of PAL-XFEL Projext signed the memorandum.

According to the memorandum, both parties agreed to boost the cooperation on PAL-XFEL Project by developing key components of the linac accelerator, facility installation, commissioning and further R&D.

The X-ray Free Electron Laser (PAL-XFEL) is a new project of the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL),aiming to build an X-ray FEL machine based on a SASE (self-amplified spontaneous emission) scheme.

Prof. KO In Soo visited IHEP from March 25 to 27. He listened to talks covering the current status of the mega-science facilities at IHEP, and had lengthy discussions with IHEP scientists about the future cooperation.
