IHEP and Yunnan University launch cooperation

The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) signed a cooperative agreement on scientific research with Yunnan University on

Since the 1950s when the earliest Yunnan cosmic ray observatory was built in China, the Department of Physics of Yunnan University has been one of IHEP’s main collaborators in cosmic ray research. During the recent years, Yunnan University plays an active role in the studies, site selection of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) Project, one of the candidate projects under the key projects of the Twelfth Five-Year Plan.

At the signing ceremony, Mr. HE Tianchun, President of Yunnan University familiarized the IHEP scientists with the campus environment, discipline distributions and student enrollments in the university.

Prof. Wang Huanyu, Deputy Director of IHEP introduced the IHEP scientific activities, including the progress of LHAASO and post-graduate education.

Both sides exchanged views on how to further the existing cooperation, a wide range of cooperative items were discussed. Among those, LHAASO, software development, interdisciplinary research, and talent education were the ones on which both sides expressed willingness to conduct cooperation.

Founded in 1923, Yunnan University is among the sixty-one “Project 211” universities in China, and is also on the list of the key national universities for special construction in the Western China Development Program.
