INFN delegation calls at IHEP
Led by Dr. Fernando FERRONI, the President of the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), an INFN delegation
both sides discuss the future cooperation |
Dr. WANG Yifang extended his warm welcome to Dr. Fernando FERRONI and his delegation, and made brief introduction to the current scientific activities at IHEP, which included BESIII Experiment, DayaBay Neutrion Experiment, China Spallation Neutron Sources, the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) Project, etc. WANG mentioned that China and Italy’s cooperation in BESIII Experiment and the Astrophysical Radiation with Ground-based Observatory at YangBaJing (ARGO-YBJ) Experiment has produced a great deal of achievements till now.
Dr. FERRONI presented INFN’s research progress in high energy physics at the meeting, which was highlighted by the SuperB Factory Project. Both sides explored the possible future cooperation mechanism in the related fields. It was decided that an annual cooperative committee be set up to promote the scientific communication and personnel exchange between IHEP and INFN.
Founded in 1951, INFN is an organization dedicated to the study of the fundamental constituents of matter, and conducts theoretical and experimental research in the fields of subnuclear, nuclear, and astroparticle physics. Research activity at the INFN is carried out at two complementary types of facilities: the 19 Divisions and the four National Laboratories. The INFN workforce includes about 2000 of its own employees, almost 2000 university employees involved in research conducted by the Institute, and 1300 young researchers, including undergraduate and graduate students and research fellows. The on-going ARGO-YBJ Project represents the highest level of the Sino-Italian scientific cooperation
