BEPCII spare superconducting cavity installed

2011-10-08

The BEPCII Spare Superconducting Cavity (SCC) was successfully installed in the afternoon of September 26, 2011. Scientists and engineers from the Center for Accelerators, IHEP had spent three months

in assembling the cavity and its installation marked an important milestone in the R&D of the BEPCII SCC.

The 500MHz superconducting cavity for BEPCII is the first self-developed cavity in China. As costs for developing superconducting cavity are very high and the related technologies have been under the monopoly of a small number of foreign countries, IHEP decided to develop the SCC for BEPCII through self-reliance. Funded by CAS, this project has been on the top-list of IHEP's technology innovation program.

Owing to the dedicated work of the scientists and engineers involved, both the R&D and the installation work are very well done and a sound foundation has been laid for the work ahead. For the next phase, engineers will start connection and commissioning of the lines and control loops in preparation for the future cavity test.
